In this Trenton press conference, Rabbi Smith explains the dangers of public health’s euthanasia program and the vital need to stop physician assisted suicide (medical murder, the elimination of people who are going to ‘die anyways’) and reverse categorizing people as “lives unworthy of life.”
Back in 1973 I first became aware of a book suggested to me by prominent psychiatrist Dr. Peter Breggin. It was called “A Sign For Cain” by Fredric Wertham MD. Wertham’s 1966 book takes an in depth look at role of psychiatrists during the Nazi extermination era. There was one section that noted the terminology of “useless eaters” [a State label?] and the justification for the ‘destruction of life devoid of value’ (actual terminology used if memory serves me ]. Admittedly it was not addressing doctor assisted suicide per se ; but it was noting how a belief can take hold in a culture that there can be a class of people who are unworthy of life and seemingly without hope and it was justifiable that they be purged. To what extent this belief was prevalent during all World Wars I can’t say. I could venture a guess that there is an argument that could be made that there is a fine line between suicide and homicide…..the distinction being the individual loss of all hope for life such that one essentially grants permission to another authority [Medical] the role of God.
Thanks, Ron, for your comment. Physician assisted suicide is based on the Nazi euthanasia construct of Lebensunwertes Leben (lives unworthy of life). In fact, the physician is the judge and executioner because he first provinces the death sentence (“terminal diagnosis”) then provides the poison.
